Michelle Williams: Heath Ledger always had trouble sleeping

Actress says he had an uncontrollable energy

Michelle Williams has revealed that ex-fiancé Heath Ledger was an insomniac.

The actor was found dead at his Manhattan apartment on 22 January after taking an accidental overdose of prescription drugs - possibly in an effort to get to sleep.

'For as long as I'd known him, he had bouts with insomnia. He just had too much energy,' Michelle explains.

'His mind was turning, turning, turning — always turning. He had an uncontrollable energy. He buzzed. He would jump out of bed.'

Michelle, 27, who is mum to Heath's 2-year-old daughter Matilda, says the Brokeback Mountain star had a tenderness to his character.

'I think that the interesting thing about Heath, which maybe people have only really fully discovered in his death, is how vulnerable he was,' she tells Interview.

'It's easy to overlook because he was so physical and beautiful and strong and masculine. But there was always that underlying sensitivity. That's who he was.'
