Amy Winehouse ashamed and embarrassed by addiction

Singer is a bad example says United Nations spokesman

Amy Winehouse has vowed to kick drugs for good after a United Nations substance abuse expert criticised the UK for being too soft on celebrity junkies.

'It gives the wrong messages. The public becomes cynical about the responses to drug offenders,' Professor Hamid Ghodse, President of the International Narcotics Control Board, declared.

Now Amy’s determined to get herself clean.

‘She’s been wanting to beat drugs for a long time, but having UN bigwigs tear into her behaviour was the last straw,’ a pal tells the Daily Star.

‘She was really embarrassed by all the fuss and it made her realise how people may be looking at her and thinking drugs were OK because she was doing them.’

Amy, 24, recently checked into rehab after a video of her appearing to smoke crack emerged on the internet.

She is now back at home but insiders say she’s struggling to stay clean and has been out partying until 5am on several occasions.

Her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, is being held in Pentonville Prison, North London, on charges on GBH and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
