Whitney Houston to be paid £1.7m for charity gig?

Phone boss reported to be paying singer £28,000 a minute

Whitney Houston is rumoured to be earning £1.7m for a one-hour gig in May at a charity ball in Battersea, London.

The fee works out at more than £28,000 per minute.

Billionaire Phones4U founder John Caudwell is hoping the singer’s appearance will guarantee the success of the fundraising event for his Caudwell Children charity.

‘John thinks it's important to raise the profile of the charity, and eye-catching stars such as Whitney Houston are exactly the sort of people he's hoping to attract,’ a source tells the Mail On Sunday.

Whitney, 44, has reportedly insisted on being provided with M&M sweets, sourdough bagels, pulp-free orange juice, 2 full-length mirrors with make-up lights and 2 large banquet tables for her entourage, who plan to stay at the Dorchester.

A spokesman for Caudwell Children said that claims of a £1.7m fee were ‘ludicrous’.
