Lynne Spears has praised ex-husband Jamie for his efforts in taking control of their daughter’s affairs.
Britney's father was given court-approved co-conservatorship status a month ago. He has access to his daughter's medical records, control of her finances, and the right to change the locks at her home and to remove anyone living there.
'[Jamie's] gathered a team of reputable people who are around [Britney] now,' a family friend tells People.com. 'She's not well, but for the first time in a long time she has people around her who really care about her."
Lynne, 53, is not finding it easy to cope with Britney being in and out of the hospital in LA.
She also wants to spend time with her pregnant 16-year-old daughter, Jamie Lynn, who lives in Kentwood, Louisiana.
'As a mother she feels needed in both places,' says the pal. 'She's doing whatever she can to help both girls. She's got that maternal instinct, and it's in high gear.'
Both Jamie and Lynn are pleased that Britney's recently seen her sons, Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1.
'She still has a long way to go [to get better], but that's what we hope and pray for,' adds the insider. 'Lynne and Jamie want their child to be whole again.'
