Colin Farrell: My son is a gift

The Irish actor talks about his son's genetic disorder

Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell says he's grateful for the early diagnosis of his son James' neuro-genetic disorder.

Colin, 31, shares custody with 4-year-old James' mother Kim Bordenave. He went public about his son's health last year, explaining he has Angelman syndrome, which affects his speech, movement and balance.

But Colin says he's happy with the progress his son is making. ‘As far as I’m concerned, he’s exactly the way he should be,’ he says.

‘I've been very lucky that it was [diagnosed] early because he started having seizures at about eight or nine months.'

The Irish actor sees his son 'as a gift'.

‘I see people who move perfectly, who walk with grace, and who speak with great diction, but we're all miserable - including me, at times,' Colin said on Irish chat show Tubridy Tonight.

'And then I see this fella who doesn't move the way that’s perceived to be normal, and he's as happy as can be. He's nothing but a gift.’
