SEE PICS Julie Christie and Tilda Swinton lead the way in 2008 Oscar fashion disasters

Pair step out in horrendous outfits

Julie Christie

Julie Christie was the worst fashion offender at Sunday's Oscars.

The British actress was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in Away From Her but left the event as Style Disaster Queen instead.

Goodness know what was going through her head when she chose her hideous red satin dress.

Julie, 66, teamed the outfit with ridiculously OTT Barbie-style pink gloves.

And Tilda Swinton, who won Best Supporting Actress for Michael Clayton, didn't do any better in a shapeless black number by Lanvin.

The androgynous-looking 47-year-old didn't even seem to like the dress much herself.

'Alber Elbaz (at Lanvin) designed it just for me, so what am I going to do?' she told reporters. 'Not wear it? Of course I'm going to wear it.'
