The Oscars will go ahead on 24 February after the US writers’ strike was resolved today.

Members of The Writers’ Guild Of America have accepted a deal with producers, ending their 100-day strike.

February’s Oscar ceremony was under threat, but now the bash is back on.

‘I'm ecstatic that the 80th Academy Awards presentation can now proceed full steam ahead,’ organiser Sid Ganis tells People Magazine.

The new agreement will increase the writers' residual payments for movies and TV shows downloaded online.
