Carla Bruni marries Nicolas Sarkozy in secret ceremony

The couple become man and wife at 11am

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, 53, and Carla Bruni, 40, have become man and wife.

They exchanged vows at the presidential palace at 11am.

François Lebel, mayor of Paris's fashionable 8th arrondissement, officiated.

It is just just two and a half months since Nicolas, a dad of 3, and Carla, mum to 7-year-old son Aurélien, met at a dinner party in Paris.

'Carla married in white and looked ravishing,' Mr Lebel tells the Daily Telegraph.

The Italian singer, who has previously been romantically involved with Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton, is Nicolas's 3rd wife and will become France's First Lady.

She will now be able to accompany Nicolas on a state visit to Britain and stay with the Queen at Windsor Castle.

'Carla is living an authentic love story. I think that they make a good couple,' says her mum Marisa.
