The Duchess Of York Sarah Ferguson’s home almost burned down on Tuesday.
A scented candle is believed to have been left alight in a bathroom – and it’s caused more than £20k in fire and smoke damage.
The 48-year-old was attending a business meeting in London when the blaze took hold at Dolphin House in Englefield Green, Surrey.
Daughters Princess Beatrice, 19, and Eugenie, 17, were also out.
Fire-fighters managed to get the blaze under control after a housekeeper sounded the alarm.
‘The Duchess may not feel that lucky right not but this fire could have been very much worse,’ one officer tells The Sun.
‘If the housekeeper had not been there to react so quickly the fire could have destroyed much more than a bathroom suite. The cause is being investigated, but the early indication is that it may have been the lighted candle.’
A spokesperson for Fergie remained tight-lipped about the cause of the emergency.
‘We can confirm there was a fire at Dolphin House and the fire brigade was called,’ he said.
And Fergie wasn’t the only celeb to have trouble with a burning candle.
Kate Beckinsale, 34, has revealed her moggy set himself alight on Sunday.
‘Our cat Clive caught fire on a candle,’ she tells the Daily Express. ‘As I was getting ready there was a whoosh, like a fireball. He’s fine. He had no idea what happened to him.’
