Dr Drew Pinsky says it's unusual for a young man to die from pneumonia
Tuesday, 29 January 2008
Heath Ledger is more likely to have died from an accidental overdose than 'natural causes', claims a TV doctor.
Dr Drew Pinsky reckons that for a 28-year-old to die from pneumonia is very unlikely.
‘That rarely happens to young people,’ he says.
‘The term "natural causes" is very ambigious. Natural causes always means something, such as a rhythmic disturbance in the heart.’
Dr Pinsky, 49, explains that a prescribed opiate-based cough medicine for pneumonia could have played a large part in Heath's death.
Police allegedly found 5 different prescription medicines in the actor's bedroom.
The doctor tells Page Six the mixture would be ‘an extraordinary and excessive combination’.
Just one of the drugs taken in excess can lead to ‘excessive sedation, depressed respiratory function which may proceed to coma and possibly death.’
The exact cause of Heath's death remains undetermined. He was found unconscious by his masseuse Diane Wolozin at his Manhattan apartment last Tuesday.
