Actor's insomnia left him exhausted

When Heath Ledger couldn't sleep, he'd go wandering in New York's Washington Square Park.
'He would walk early in the morning – around 6:30 a.m. or 7,' says Tony Rivera, 52, who walks his dog in the park.
'He said he always had trouble sleeping. That's why he'd come out so early in the morning.'
Heath sometimes joined in chess games but always complained of exhaustion.
'He'd say, "I'm very tired,"' Tony tells People.com, 'and he looked it.'
Heath used sleeping pills to try and get some rest but his insomnia wouldn't shift.
'Last week I probably slept an average of 2 hours a night,' the actor told The Times recently. 'I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted and my mind was still going.'
