Mitch Winehouse: We couldn't section Amy

Singer's dad says authorities don’t think she’s a ‘danger to herself’

Amy Winehouse has voluntarily entered rehab to the relief of her family who were considering having her sectioned.

The singer's dad Mitch, 57, was considering the drastic action but was advised his daughter cannot be forcibly entered into a treatment facility under the Mental Health Act.

‘Obviously this is something that we have looked at,’ he told Vanessa Feltz on BBC London 94.9. ‘What you have got to understand is that Amy is nowhere near being in a position to be sectioned.

'She really has to be a danger to herself. You might consider taking drugs is a danger to herself, but unfortunately the authorities don't.’

Mitch says the troubled star is still hoping to perform at the Grammys next month when she completes her stint.

‘Because she has a drugs conviction, at this moment in time she can't go into the States,’ he says.

‘We are working to rectify that and it will be rectified within the next week or so. We are working on it to be able to go to the Grammys.’
