GMTV reporter is ‘devastated’ after breaking ankle
Thursday, 24 January 2008
Michael Underwood has been forced to quit Dancing On Ice after breaking his ankle in training.
The GMTV reporter, 32, was rushed to hospital last night after landing awkwardly during a complex routine.
He’ll be unable to compete because his leg is now in a plaster cast.
Michael says he’s ‘devastated’ at having to pull out of the ITV show.
‘It was a really awful day,’ he tells the Daily Mail. ‘The routine for me was really really difficult, so I was practising as much as I could and really going at it.
‘I'd like to be able to tell you that I was doing something amazing like a triple axel and failed, but all I was doing was trying to stop.
'I put in all this time and effort to try and prove that I can do it and now I don't have the chance to skate a clean routine. I'm still devastated, but I'm now trying to put things into perspective.’
Michael will have to rest for 6 weeks before he can go back to work.
Show bosses are currently discussing whether or not to replace him.
