Actor told film director Shekhar Kapur to ring him
Friday, 25 January 2008
Heath Ledger spoke to his good friend Shekhar Kapur the day before he died - and made him promise to call him in the morning.
The actor had arranged to meet the film director on Tuesday but was worried he'd sleep through his alarm, so he asked Shekhar to wake him.
But the next day, Heath didn't answer his phone.
‘I last spoke to him the night before he died,’ Shekhar reveals.
‘He said he could not see me that night but really wanted to meet me the next day. He made me promise I would call him in the morning and wake him. I tried but didn’t get any response.'
Shekhar, 62, was devastated to learn of the tragedy.
'Little did I know that his soul had already left his body,' he says.
'He was one of the most gentle, most honest, most caring, and most compassionate persons I had met.'
Shekhar directed Heath in The Four Feathers in 2002.
Heath, 28, was pronounced dead at 3.35pm and his body was removed from his Manhattan apartment by paramedics 3 hours later.
