Dr Phil McGraw regrets talking about Britney Spears

TV shrink questions just how helpful his comments were

US TV shrink Dr Phil McGraw has spoken out about the furore caused when he visited Britney Spears in hospital.

He admits he shouldn’t have talked publically about the incident.

The talkshow host was invited by the troubled star’s dad Jamie, 55, to speak to her after she was forcibly taken to Cedars-Sinai hospital on 3 January.

But the Spears family turned on him when he spoke to the press about the meeting.

And now he’s acknowledged that he made a mistake, reports Perez Hilton.

‘Was it helpful to the situation?’ he told the audience while taping his show on Thursday. ‘Regrettably, no. It was not, and I have to acknowledge that and I do.

'I definitely think if I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't make any statement at all. Period.’

Dr Phil, 57, is not licensed as a psychologist in California.

The show will air on Monday in the States.
