Atonement wins big at Golden Globes

Annual awards do is just a muted press conference

keira Knightley

Keira Knightley drama Atonement was the big winner at last night’s muted Golden Globes.

The period drama took home the Best Motion Picture gong at the ceremony in Beverly Hills, California.

But Keira, 22, and other big names didn’t attend.

The lavish do had to be scaled back into an hour-long announcement because of the ongoing writers’ strike.

It was no surprise that Johnny Depp won Best Performance In A Musical Or Comedy for his role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.

Daniel Day-Lewis grabbed Best Actor for his magnificent oil baron in There Will be Blood and British actress Julie Christie was voted Best Actress for her performance as an Alzheimer's sufferer in Away From Her.

And in a surprising win, Cate Blanchett received the Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role playing legendary singer Bob Dylan in I'm Not There.
