Footballer is asked to help save the planet

David Beckham has been accused of having the world’s largest carbon footprint.
In the last year he flew 163,000 miles for his Euro 2008 qualifiers and more than 8,000 miles following the Spice Girls on tour. Plus - there's all his club travelling and trips for advertising commitments.
‘The amount of flying David does means he holds the dubious crown of having the largest carbon footprint in human history,’ explains a Carbon Trust spokesman.
‘He should use his celebrity status to make people aware of the damage that travelling can cause to the planet.’
The LA Galaxy star, 32, is currently the proud owner of 15 exclusive cars, including a Hummer, Porsche and Lincoln Navigator.
He has reportedly created a staggering 163 tons of CO2, compared with the 9.4 tons of the average Brit.
Environmentalists are now urging Beckham to go green.
‘With all his money he should be using it at least to reduce his own footprint,’ the spokesman tells the Daily Star. ‘He could also choose greener cars.’
Meanwhile, Pete Doherty has been rated more environmentally friendly than Sting. The singer tends to play smaller places so fans don’t have to travel as far, says a study carried out by carbonfootprint.com.
