Actor wants Hollywood writers’ strike to be resolved before annual ceremony
Wednesday, 9 January 2008
George Clooney has made an emotional plea urging Hollywood studios to reach agreement with the striking Writers Guild Of America before the Oscars.
The actor, 46, is hoping that the Academy Awards will go ahead next month after this Sunday’s Golden Globes were dramatically cancelled.
If the strike continues, George is expected to snub the Oscars.
‘I don't cross picket lines,’ he said at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Monday. ‘I belong to six unions myself and I wouldn't cross a picket line.
‘Our hope is that all of the players involved will lock themselves in a room and not come out until they finish. We want this to be done.’
Meanwhile, George has congratulated pal Nicole Kidman, 40, on her pregnancy, saying she’ll make the ‘perfect mother’.
‘I'm thrilled for her,’ he tells The Sun. ‘She will be a perfect mother. Nicole will be great. She'll be a tall mother!’
