The Golden Globe awards have officially been axed after stars vowed to boycott the event to support the Hollywood writers' strike.
The usually lavish Beverly Hills ceremony has been scaled down into a simple presentation after actors including Keira Knightley said they wouldn’t be crossing the picket line.
Instead, the event will be covered as a news item on NBC and winners will be awarded their prize if they choose to turn up.
‘Essentially, we're being forced to scrap our awards gala for what will be a glorified press conference where the winners' names will be announced,’ a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association tells the Daily Mail.
‘If they happen to be around they will collect the award and that's it.’
All of the 72 Globe nominee actors are said to have decided not to attend a televised, picketed Globes.
The strike by the Writers Guild Of America has been going for more than 2 months after talks to boost pay were left unresolved and more than 12,000 members were asked to stop work.
