Extras star wants to replace Daniel Craig as 007
Friday, 28 December 2007
Ricky Gervais has revealed he wants to be the next James Bond.
The comedian fancies himself as the ideal replacement when Daniel Craig retires from his 007 role.
'I shall be the next James Bond,' he jokes. 'Yes, I am several inches too short, but I could always surround myself with much shorter actors!'
The Christmas special of Ricky's TV show Extras was shown last night and 5.3m viewers tuned in.
George Michael and Gordon Ramsay appeared as celebrity guests.
Hollywood beckons but Ricky, 46, says he's got no intention of quitting Blighty for California – as he's happy being based in the UK.
'I just don't want to be a film star,' he tells The Times. 'I'm just not excited by seeing my face on screen. For me, it is all about the creative process.
'The creative idea is the exciting bit and then it is all about how much you ruin it.
'In 20 years' time when I am too fat to walk, I'll look up at my shelf and I'll have The Office box set and the Extras box set, a couple of films, maybe three, and I will be happy with that.'
Ricky has already starred in big-budget movies Stardust, Night At The Museum, and Valiant.
