Kerry Katona: I want to take DNA to see if bus driver is my dad

Father-of-five John Dowd had fling with her mum

Kerry Katona is desperate to know if bus driver John Dowd is her dad.

The 49-year-old - now a dad of 5 and married for the 3rd time - had a brief fling with Kerry's mum Sue in 1979 and Kerry wants to know if she is the result of that relationship.

'I've thought a lot about who my father really is, and maybe 2008 is the time to get to the truth,' Kerry, 27, told a pal. 'I'll take a DNA test if necessary. I'm not afraid to do this.'

If John does turn out to be the ex-Atomic Kitten star's father, he insists he wants nothing from her.

'All I want is to be her dad and at this time of year that seems important,' he says.

John met Sue Katona 19 at a pub in Warrington, Cheshire, when she was just 19 and married to his 1st wife.

'I'm ashamed to say it now,' he tells The Sunday People, 'but I was a young lad looking for a good time.

The couple had a casual affair for 5 months, but it ended when he got found out.

John heard Sue was pregnant but presumed the child was another man's. Then the little girl grew up and became famous.

'I saw Kerry on TV and I had to try to keep the panic inside,' he says. 'I checked her date of birth on the internet and thought, "God, she could be mine".

'I just hope she can forgive me for all the time we've lost together and give me the chance to make it up to her.'
