Opera star Russell Watson has revealed he thought he was going to die while being rushed to hospital for life-saving brain surgery.
The singer - who had a 3-hour operation to remove a tumour at the end of October – admits doctors had warned him it was ‘touch and go’ as he flitted in and out of consciousness.
The 41-year-old first had a growth removed last year but he collapsed while recording his latest album after it returned.
‘I remember thinking: “Oh dear, I don’t think I am going to make it this time,”' he says.
‘I had actually felt like I was well on the road to recovery. I wasn’t aware of the severity until the day I was rushed into hospital - it was very scary.’
Salford-born Russell is now recovering at home, and insists his singing will take a back seat while he undergoes radiotherapy in the New Year.
‘It is a new fight,’ he tells the Daily Mail. ‘There won’t be any singing for me for a while.’
