Geri makes teary appearance in Spice Girls documentary

The Spice Girls reveal all

Spice Girls

The Spice Girls may be dancing on air during their reunion, but they hit much weightier topics – in particular, Geri Halliwell's abrupt exit from the group in 1998 – in their upcoming documentary, clips from which hit the Internet this week.

"I just felt like the band had got so big, and the girls were almost like they didn't need me anymore, really," says Halliwell, aka Ginger Spice, of her decision to strike out on her own, leaving her four bandmates in the lurch.

"I definitely felt very redundant," she says, "like the wheels were turning whether I was there or not, it felt."

Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) does not mince words when it comes to Halliwell, using an expletive to describe the band's reaction to her exit. "Luckily, you know, they were cool," Chisholm says of the group's fans. "They said, 'We still want to see the Spice Girls.' "

The doc isn't all doom and gloom. It also chronicles the band's rise to fame, which Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham describes as "everything that I ever dreamed of and more."
