Lily Allen's mum: Lily took an overdose aged 15

Singing sensation was desperate after teenage break-up

Lily Allen’s mum Alison Owen has revealed that her famous daughter was so distraught after breaking up with her first boyfriend, she wanted to end her own life.

Lily was just 15 when she split with her teenage sweetheart Lester.

‘It was the only time I’ve been seriously worried about her,' Alison explains. 'She was on the verge of being suicidal. Lily took an overdose and tried to cut her wrists.

'I took her to the Priory where they could keep a 24-hour watch on her. She was in for four weeks…it was a turning point.’

Lily, now 22, has been open about her past drug use but the new revelation comes as a shock.

‘In my teens I did experiment with drugs,' Lily tells The Sunday Times Magazine. 'I don't know anyone now who isn't a drug-taker, in recovery from drugs or on prescription drugs.

'I was about 15 when I smoked my first spliff.'
