When doctors warned Fern Britton that she was endangering her life if she didn't shape up, she knew it was time for drastic action.
She overhauled her lifestyle, changed her diet and has lost an amazing 4st in the process.
Shockingly, Now's learnt that fears she was being seen as a bad role model also spurred Fern, 50, into action.
Fern's biographer and friend Sarah Marshall tells Now: 'Fern felt she was a role model for bigger women but, as she put on more weight, she was worried that she was becoming a bad role model.
'With Fern, family comes ahead of anything else. She slimmed down for her health and so that she could run around after her kids a bit more.'
When the TV presenter committed to a 40km charity cycling ride to Egypt last year, it was the chance for her to get fit at the same time as raising money for a good cause.
The results have had the whole showbiz world talking. 'Fern looks amazing,' says Sarah. 'She started doing the charity bike rides for two reasons: to support the cause and to get her health back on track.'
