Robbie Williams is expected to have to stump up £500,000 in damages and legal costs after losing a year-long court battle yesterday.
Pop guru Nigel Martin-Smith took the singer to the High Court over lyrics about him on a Rudebox track called The 90s, released in 2006.
Robbie, 33, has had to apologise for the 'outrageous allegations' in the contoversial song which wrongly suggests that Nigel embezzled funds when he managed Take That.
Nigel was pleased to have won the decision and says that Robbie's lack of chart success in recent years should be telling him something.
‘Rob should have five years off as he can't swim against the tide of popularity,’ he announced. ‘He needs to stop loving himself so much.’
But Nigel insists there's no vendetta between them.
‘This could have been settled quietly a long time ago,' he tells the Daily Mirror, 'but he wouldn't apologise... He refused point blank to meet me or read any letters that I sent him.’
Nigel first threatened to sue for libel in September 2006 and Robbie has already been forced to alter the lyrics and re-record the song.
Now in a parting shot, Nigel says Robbie’s ego has cost him his career.
‘He's on the wane and Take That are on the up. Robbie should let the Take That boys have their time in the sun now.’
Ouch.
