Arlene Phillips: I wear tracksuit bottoms behind the judges' desk

The Strictly Come Dancing judge is only glam from the waist up

Arlene Phillips loves all the fantastic costumes the dancers wear on Strictly Come Dancing, but she's not glam from top to toe herself.

‘Very often, I have my trainers and tracksuit bottoms on under the judging table,’ she laughs.

‘I’m glamorous up top and scruffy down below! It’s awful if I have to stand up without my heels on – I look like a midget next to Craig and Len.’

Arlene, 63, is a very passionate woman. She doesn’t hold back whether she’s praising or chastising the celebs on the show.

But she reckons she's Mrs Nice, not Mrs Nasty.

‘I think I’m lovely,’ she insists.

‘I don’t get it in the neck from people in the street. They just seem to think I’m honest and direct, which I am.

'I never regret what I say because it’s spur of the moment and comes from the heart.'
