Jennifer Love Hewitt gets engaged

Jennifer Love Hewitt says that her relationship with Ross McCall is effortless

Jennifer Love Hewitt is engaged to Scottish actor Ross McCall, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

The engagement took place last week, added the spokesperson. Hewitt, 28, and McCall, 31, have been a couple for almost two years.

This will be the first marriage for both. No wedding date has been set.

McCall, who costarred in the 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, appeared in one episode of Hewitt's hit show Ghost Whisperer, in 2006.

In April of this year, Hewitt told PEOPLE that the romance with McCall works because it's effortless.

"It's the first time I've ever been in a relationship where you don't have to try," she said. "And I think that's the answer. That's when you know that you're in something really good and healthy and right."
