Pete Doherty disappointed fans last week when he failed to turn up at the NME Awards Launch Party to perform with Babyshambles.
The troubled star - who's still attending rehab after relapsing in October - pulled a sicky, leaving crowds at the Indig02 disgruntled as the rest of the band fought to keep them entertained.
But soon devoted fan Jamie Bell was plucked from the crowds to take his place - and joined bass player Drew McConnell and drummer Adam Ficek to perform Carry Up On The Morning.
‘It’s been a hell of a day,’ Drew told the crowds. ‘The other boys are not here – it’s a bit embarrassing.’
Pete, 29, had apparently been diagnosed with exhaustion after overdoing things on a promotional schedule.
‘He’s still attending a rehab centre which he had to follow whilst on tour and has to travel hundreds of miles back home after shows,’ his spokesman tells the Daily Mirror.
‘As a result touring is more arduous for him than normal.’
