Russell Brand apologises for stealing mail

Star blames drug addiction for thefts

Russell Brand has apologised for stealing people's mail when he was a postman - but blames his behaviour on drug addiction.

The 32-year-old comedian - who has just released his autobiography, My Booky Wook - admits he often stole packages.

'I nicked some letters and I'd like to apologise,' says the TV dandy. 'I stole CDs and birthday cards, too.'

Russell says his heroin and cocaine addiction turned him into a thief.

'I was on drugs - you can't blame me,' he insists.

The TV presenter also reveals that he only took the job as a postman because he thought he'd be propositioned by lonely women.

'I was definitely anticipating a lot more sex,' he tells the Daily Record. 'But no one opened that door and went, "Do you want to come in?"'
