Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) is set to be worst-selling song ever

The Spice Girls' comeback single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) looks set to be the worst-selling Children In Need song ever.

The track has so far just managed to scrape into the midweek charts at No 10, selling only 5,278 copies.

Recording the official Children In Need song usually guarantees the top spot. And considering that Headlines has been available to download since last week, it's definitely not good news.

‘There has been a tremendous buzz about the Spice return, but sales for both their Greatest Hits album and the single have not matched up to the hype,’ says a source.

‘The fact that Headlines is for charity should have helped boost its performance but that hasn't happened.’

And the main radio stations seem to have shunned the tune, too.

‘The song simply isn't strong enough... It would have been a B-side in their heyday,’ Radio 1 Head Of Music George Ergatoudis tells the Daily Mirror.

Last week, Leona Lewis - who looks on course to keep the top spot - trounced the group’s Greatest Hits album in the album chart battle by 300,000 copies.

'The Spice Girls are donating all profits to BBC Children In Need,' a Children In Need spokesperson commented. 'We are very grateful for their support and fantastic performances.'
