Westlife star was planning a career as a copper
Sunday, 4 November 2007
Westlife's Nicky Byrne has revealed that he nearly joined the Irish police before he realised he could make a living in music.
'I had a fascination with the police force,' he admits.
'I did the exam for the Irish police, which I passed and was then put on a waiting list.'
Nicky, 29, joined Westlife in 1998 after being spotted at an audition for another boyband. In March 1999, Westlife's first single Swear It Again was released and went straight to the top of the charts in Ireland and the UK.
By then, a uniform was ready and waiting for him.
'I got the call about a year later just as we had our first No 1,' Nicky tells Sunday Express magazine.
'My mum was like, "No, he's not going to take that up at the moment, but thanks anyway."'
