David Walliams and Matt Lucas swop roles at the National TV Awards

Stars turn out for National Television Awards

Ant and Dec and Doctor Who are the big winners

Thursday, 1 November 2007

Sir Trevor McDonald hosted the National Television Awards last night at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Ant and Dec and Doctor Who were the big winners of the night and the cream of the TV world put on their party gear to celebrate.

Little Britain's Matt Lucas and David Walliams came as alter-egos Andy and Lou, but turned the act on its head by switching roles.

X Factor judges Dannii Minogue, 37, Sharon Osbourne, 55, were joined by Jack and Kelly Osbourne.

Big Brother was represented by twins Sam and Amanda Marchant, 19, winner Brian Belo, 20, and Ziggy, 26.

Kelly Brook, Fearne Cotton, Dermot O'Leary, Adele Silva and Holly Willoughby also joined the bash.

Ant and Dec accepted their awards via video link from LA.

They were nominated Best Entertainment Presenters, Saturday Night Takeaway was Most Popular Entertainment Programme and I'm A Celeb... was named Top Reality Show.

Doctor Who won in the most Popular Drama Category, while star David Tennant was named Best Actor.

In the battle of the soaps, EastEnders was crowned most popular serial drama for the third year running, while the Square's Lacey Turner, 19, received the Best Actress award.

Simon Cowell, 48, was annoyingly smug because The X Factor beat rival Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's Any Dream Will Do in the Best Talent show category.

Catherine Tate won the comedy gong for her BBC2 show; while Kym Ryder, 31, picked up an award for Most Popular Newcomer for her role as Michelle Connor in Corrie.

The Top Gear boys went home with the Best Factual Show award, and host Jeremy Clarkson, 47, was surprised with the Special Recognition Award presented by Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton, 22.
