David Beckham brings island to standstill

St Mary's in the Scilly Isles goes potty for Becks

David Beckham brought a small island to a standstill yesterday.

Becks, 32, was filming an Adidas commercial in St Mary's in the Scilly Isles with England teammate Steven Gerrard.

And the arrival of the soccer stars brought out the crowds. David was surrounded by fans who wanted his autograph and to take a pic with him.

‘Word got around and there were hundreds watching,’ newsagent Clive Mumford tells the Daily Mirror.

‘It seemed the whole island had come to a halt. There hasn't been such excitement since Charles and Diana used to holiday here.’

And crowd-favourite David also let local kids join him in a kickabout.

It seems he’s fallen in love with St Mary's.

‘It's an amazing and beautiful place, especially with weather like this,’ he enthused.

‘I'm enjoying myself and everyone's been so friendly. I'm tempted to come back with the family - it's private and the kids would love it.’
