Mariah Carey advises young stars

Singer's words of wisdom for Lindsay and Britney

Mariah Carey has some sound advice for Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears – focus on what matters.

"I would say you need to be very centered, and spiritually know where you're at, all the time," Carey told Glamour magazine in its November issue when asked what she'd say to the troubled starlets, Access Hollywood reports.

"Don't read the tabloids. Don't be obsessed with what people are writing or saying," the singer adds. "Live your life for you."

Carey, 37, also admitted that even she finds celebrity life challenging at times.

"My lifestyle has changed since making it," she told the magazine. "It's not a financial struggle, but I'm still struggling in a lot of ways ... It took me a long time to acknowledge that my personal feelings mattered."

What helps her keep going is her love of music: "Now the struggle is to keep creating music I love. Even if that wasn't my job, it would be something that I would do, either to write songs or poetry," she said.
