They might have 14 UK No 1s under their belt, but Westlife say they daren’t go up against The X Factor for the Christmas top spot.
Shane Filan, 28, reckons it’s too hard to battle with Simon Cowell’s money-making machine.
‘There’s no point,’ he says. ‘You can’t compete with 12 weeks of promotion. The X Factor is the biggest show in the country.’
Shane reckons there’s been a shift in thinking within the industry.
‘I believe it’s a race for No 2 for Christmas now,’ Shane tells Now Online. ‘There’s no such thing as a Christmas No 1 anymore. The X Factor is No 1, it’s that simple.’
Instead the boys will release the second single from the new album Back Home - out on on 5 November - in mid-January.
