He’s fed up living in country with insane rules
Sunday, 28 October 2007
Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor is threatening to quit the UK.
After completing a 15,000 mile motorcycle journey through Africa, he says the ‘nanny state’ culture at home makes him want to head back abroad.
‘If anything drives me out of the country it will be that, not tax - I don't earn enough,’ he admits.
‘The trip opened my eyes to how insane the rules are in Britain - CCTV cameras everywhere, congestion charge, a ludicrous nanny state.
‘Health and safety are out of control. In Africa, garage attendants smoked as they filled the bikes. I took great pleasure in that.’
And Ewan, 36, reckons we’re a nation of misery-guts. ‘The happiest people are often those who have the least,’ he tells the Radio Times. ‘In Britain we're depressed yet have so much.’
