Jason Donovan: My jealousy drove Kylie away

He admits her success changed his behaviour

Ex-Neighbours star Jason Donovan has spoken out about his split with Kylie Minogue.

The actor, 39, admits he only realised his feelings for the pop princess - his co-star Down Under - when it was too late.

‘The irony is that I never initially saw her as someone I wanted to be with,’ he says.

‘Then she started to blossom and the tables turned. There was this point where I thought, “Hang on, I’m going out with an incredibly beautiful woman”.’

Jason says he actually became very possessive as 39-year-old Kylie developed into an international celebrity.

‘Then her star started to shine and I was probably doing the chasing,’ he tells Weekend. ‘Her manager and all these other men were around her, taking control of her career while I was slowly losing her.

‘When you feel you’re losing someone, you threaten to do things you wouldn’t normally do.

'I’d threaten to leave, or tell her she couldn’t go away. Jealousy is very unattractive. It’s a cancer that will eat away at a relationship.’

But Jason has managed to find love again. He is now settled with his partner Angela Malloch and their two kids Jemma, 7, and 6-year-old Zac.
