Westlife have launched a stinging attack on the Spice Girls, accusing them of chickening out of a chart battle.
The two groups were both due to release their comeback albums on the 5 November but the Spice Girls suddenly changed their date - and the boys have slated them for it.
‘As far as we were concerned we were going up against them,’ says Westlife singer Kian Egan.
‘But then they suddenly changed their minds. They’re running scared.’
The Spice Girls - who now release their greatest hits CD on 12 November - have good reason to be worried.
Last time they went up against the boys in 2000 they lost miserably - only selling 71,000 copies of their album Forever while the boys sold a staggering 234,000 of Coast To Coast.
But Westlife say they were looking forward to a rematch with their new album Back Home – especially if it means wiping the smile off Spice Girl Mel C's face.
‘We would take great pleasure in beating the Spice Girls,’ Kian tells the Daily Mirror.
‘Especially Mel C because every time she opens her mouth something mean comes out of it.’
Eeek! Put your claws back in, Kian!
