Author becomes an emotional 'wreck' after hearing true-life stories
Wednesday, 10 October 2007
JK Rowling cried her way through every last second of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards.
The annual event, which took place last night at Studio One of ITV’s London Television Centre, honours ordinary people who’ve done extraordinary things.
This year's recipients included World War 1 survivor Henry Allingham, 111, and airline worker Carol Miller, who delivered a premature 1oz baby on a flight from Crete, then kept her alive by blowing air into her lungs with a straw.
‘I'm a complete wreck,’ said JK.
‘I don't think I've ever been in such illustrious company as I have tonight.’
The billionaire author also became a blubbing wreck while handing over a Child of Courage Award to child cancer survivor Megan Blunt.
Megan, 15, was inspired by JK to write a book to help other sick children combat the deadly disease.
‘I want to give you this and I want to say if ever a book changed lives, it's yours,’ says JK.
It didn’t end there either: the billionaire author shed more tears as Harry Potter actress Emma Watson presented her with a Special Recognition Award for inspiring single mums and would-be authors.
The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards are shown on ITV1 tonight at 9pm.
