Spice Girls pull out of chart war with Westlife

Greatest hits album pushed back a week

Spice Girls and Westlife

The Spice Girls have pulled out of a chart battle with Westlife after realising they were releasing CDs on the same day.

The reformed girl band has put the release date of their greatest hits album back by a week to avoid clashing with the boys - and hope for an easier ride to the top of the charts.

Last time they went head-to-head with Westlife in 2000 they lost – only selling 71,000 copies of their album Forever in its first week, while the boys sold a staggering 234,000.

This time the Spices are determined to bag the No 1 spot and are now releasing their CD on 12 November. We can't wait!
