Charges against actor dropped

Richard Gere has been cleared of the obscenity charges he faced after smooching Shilpa Shetty last year.

The actor was criticised after sweeping Shilpa, 32, off her feet and kissing her at an AIDS awareness event in India last April.

An Indian court issued an arrest warrant against Richard, 58, claiming he'd violated the country’s public obscenity laws.

His lawyers appealed and the warrant has now been dropped.

‘Richard Gere is free to enter the country,’ the judge says. ‘This is the end of the matter.’

Under Indian law, a public obscenity conviction can result in three months in prison, a fine or both.
