Jacqui Gray was advised to see doctor after her audition

Simon Cowell has saved an X Factor contestant’s life – by advising her to seek medical help after she auditioned on the ITV show.

The music mogul told Jacqui Gray to see a doctor after hearing a nasty rasping sound when she sang Something Inside So Strong.

‘You have a very odd-sounding voice,’ Simon told Jacqui.

‘It sounded like you were choking on something.’

Following the audition, the 46-year-old had a lung scan which showed she had bronchiectasis – a lung infection which could have killed her if left untreated.

Now Jacqui is taking steroids, having regular check-ups and is said to be in a stable condition.

‘I may not have got through on X Factor,’ she tells the Daily Record, ‘but they gave me something much more important than that – they really did save my life.’
