Coronation Street is officially the best soap on TV

Corrie puts an end to EastEnders’ reigning glory

Coronation Street picked up the gong for Best Soap at the Inside Soap Awards yesterday, putting an end to EastEnders' decade-long reign.

Best Actor winner, Corrie’s Anthony Cotton, 32 (Sean Tully), said: ‘It’s about f***ing time Corrie won.

‘This is what we’ve been waiting for and we deserve it.’

Colleagues Rob James-Collier (Liam Connor) won Sexiest Male and Best Newcomer. Actor Jack P Shepherd (David Platt) won Best Bad Boy.

EastEnders actors didn’t go home empty-handed, though.

EastEnders actress Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater) won Best Actress and was voted Best Couple with on-screen fiancé Charlie Clements (Bradley Branning).

Best Bitch went to actress Sophie Thompson for her portrayal of the evil Stella - Phil Mitchell’s conniving fiancée - and her torment of young Ben took Best Storyline.

Kara Tointon (Dawn Swann) scooped the Best-Dressed award and Hollyoaks actress Roxanne McKee (Louise Summers) was named Sexiest Actress.
