Angelina Jolie's screen tears were for dying mum

Actress reveals truth behind new film's dramatic scenes

Angelina Jolie had revealed the tears she cried whilst filming A Mighty Heart were real.

The actress, 32, plays the wife of journalist Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered.

She shot the role while her mother was seriously ill with ovarian cancer.

'There are certain things that make you emotional and that remind you of the saddest things in your life,' Angelina tells the News of the World

In the scene where Mariane Pearl learns of her husband's death, Angelina wept with genuine sadness.

'Images of my own mum, who was sick at the time, went through my head,' she explains.

The mum-of-four was originally afraid to take the role but made it her own.

'i didn't think i was good enough to pull it off,' she admits.

The film is released in the UK on Friday.
