Girls Aloud singer found fame hard to deal with
Sunday, 28 October 2007
Nicola Roberts has revealed that when she first became famous, many of her old friends turned their backs on her.
She joined Girls Aloud when she was just 16 and it was a tough time.
‘One of the hardest things to deal with was some of my old friends turning against me, two of my closest friends completely disowned me,’ says the 21-year-old.
‘They thought success had changed me in a bad way. It is hard to reconcile the girl I’d been in Runcorn with the person in the band.
‘I was trying too hard to fit into the band and also trying to fit in with my friends who I’d grown up with.’
Nicola cheered herself up with a reliable remedy - shopping.
‘My answer was to spend, spend, spend. I once bought 50 pairs of shoes,' Nicola tells Live magazine. 'It made me feel good.’
