Comedy star laughs off digs about her sexuality

Jo Brand says she's no lesbian

Jo Brand has laughed off rumours that she is a man-hating lesbian.

The comedienne, 50 - who is famous for scorning male behaviour in her stand-up shows - is often branded as gay, despite the fact she's been married for 12 years.

‘Papers…create three adjectives for famous people,’ she explains. ‘With me it was “man-hating fat lesbian”.’

But the cruel jibes don’t seem to bother Jo – in fact, she often uses them as gags in her act.

‘I often tell audiences that I’m not gay because I have petitions from lesbian groups,' she tells the Daily Mirror.

'They say, “Can you tell people you’re heterosexual because you’re giving us a bad name”.’
