EastEnders' Frank Butcher dies

Actor Mike Reid has heart attack

Actor Mike Reid, who played Frank Butcher in EastEnders, has died of a suspected heart attack at the age of 67.

The comedian had made his home in Spain and his agent, David Hahn, said he was in fine form when he recently visited him there.

'Mike that particular day went to see his consultant and had a full medical - and they gave him a clean bill of health,' he told BBC News.

Mike entered showbiz as a stuntman and joined the cast of EastEnders in 1987.

After taking a couple of breaks, he made his last appearance as Frank in December 2005.

Actress Pam St Clement, who acted with Mike as wife Pat Butcher, said: 'It has come as a terrible shock - somebody larger than life as Mike was in person and character - he seemed indestructible.'
