Nick Lachey reckons his split from Jessica Simpson was the best thing that has ever happened to him.

The Hollywood couple - who starred in reality TV series Newlyweds - divorced in November 2005 after three years of marriage

‘It was best for both of us that it ended the way it did, he says. 'It's a good thing to put behind you. I learned a lot of valuable lessons.

And Nick, 33, has since found love with TV presenter Vanessa Minnillo.

'Now I'm extremely happy with where my life and my relationship are going,' he admits.

'You can't let what happened in a previous chapter of your life dictate what happens in the next.'
