Alicia Keys credits her new album for saving her from the brink of an emotional crisis.
After the success of 2003 album The Diary Of Alicia Keys – the star, 27, shunned the spotlight after her overnight fame became too hard to handle.
But penning her latest musical offering - As I Am - has proved a cathartic experience for dealing with her personal problems
'I needed this music more than it needed me,' she tells the Daily Star. 'This year's been a roller-coaster but, as down as I've been, I've learned so much.
'I found beauty during the dark times.'
